Since 2002, Heike has been working with Urgewald and many other civil rights organizations to improve international finance institutions’ social and ecological balance. Heike’s work highlights trends in the World Bank Group’s entire energy portfolio and verifies the fact the bank still strongly promotes fossil fuels and contradicts climate targets, thus harming the world’s poorest inhabitants. Heike lives in Washington D.C., where the World Bank is also situated. She has been working closely since 2019 with Knud Vocking and Ute Koczy, who coordinate Urgewald’s World Bank campaigns. Even though she spends a lot of time collecting data and reading political documents, Heike spends every spare minute with her son and daughter, often at their music, dance and sport events, including football and hockey.
