5 steps to switching banks

  1. Pick a better bank.
    Choose a sustainable bank that matches your values. You can refer to our comparison of climate policies and guidelines for German financial players.
     
  2. Open a new account.
    Fill in the contract, verify your identity (both can be done online or by mail) and wait for the account to be opened.
     
  3. Change standing orders and direct debits.
    Good news: After a change in the law, your new and old bank are obliged to help you switch accounts. This makes the switch much quicker and easier than before.
     
  4. Close your old account.
    Once everything has been switched over, close your old account. Important: Tell your old bank why you're leaving – it will make a difference!

  5. Spread the word.
    Tell others about your bank switch and motivate them to do the same. This will turn an individual decision into a movement.
