"Spread the word": The Finance Campaigner School

With the Finance Campaigner School, Urgewald shares campaigning experience and specialized financial knowledge with activists from all over the world. It provides a crucial space for exchange, education and cooperation. The Finance Campaigner School supports the global movement and helps increase the pressure on the finance world.

GCEL Mockup

“Coal exit made easy”: Global Coal Exit List (GCEL)

The nearly 3,000 companies and subsidiaries listed in GCEL represent 95% of global thermal coal production and 90% of global coal-fired power plant capacity. GCEL is the first database to provide forward-looking data thanks to its expansion criterion. It shows which companies are expanding their coal mining activities, developing new coal-fired power plants or building other coal-related infrastructure. Over 660 financial institutions from 31 countries use GCEL to restrict financing for the thermal coal industry today.

GOGEL Mockup

“Stop busting our carbon budget”: Global Oil and Gas Exit List (GOGEL)

GOGEL is the world's most comprehensive public database on the oil and gas industry. It covers over 1,800 companies active in the upstream, midstream and power sectors, representing 95% of global oil and gas production. Around 270 financial institutions from 323 countries now use GOGEL data to assess portfolio exposure and design oil and gas exclusion policies. In the database, we also show by how many bboe (billion barrels of oil equivalent) the expansion plans of individual companies exceed the 1.5 °C limit.

Transformationskampagne Baum

“Your capital can be the future”: The Transition Campaign

Every capital investment has an effect. The only question is what? With its transition campaign, Urgewald promotes sustainable investment among foundations, associations and small and medium-sized investors, sharing our extensive knowledge and instilling high ethical and sustainability standards.

Guyana / Weltbank

World Bank: Guyana

When Urgewald learned in 2019 that the World Bank had allocated a consulting budget of $55 million in order to pay the way for oil and gas development in Guyana, it was clear we had to get involved. A trip to the project area resulted in the film "Carbon Bomb", which brought the World Bank’s machinations to light.
