Green steel is on everyone’s lips, but most of the world’s steel is still produced with metallurgical coal (met coal). Responsible for 11% of global CO₂ emissions, met coal is a major roadblock to meeting our climate goals. Although clean alternatives such as green hydrogen can produce steel just as effectively – new mines keep popping up and are blocking the transition to a greener future.
