urgewald founder and visionary Heffa Schücking transformed her student activism for rainforest protection into her profession in 1992. Her many successful campaigns over more than 30 years demonstrate that a small organisation can achieve great things when it applies leverage in the “right” place.
Heffa studied biology and is a recipient of the internationally renowned Goldman Environmental Prize. Having spent much of her youth in the USA, she speaks perfect Texan English. When she is not immersed in important campaigns, Heffa enjoys dancing tango, caring for her anarchic cats or reading stacks of newspapers.
